FD Sonoma: Tilt-Shift Formula Drift

January 20th, 2011 — 12:23am

Formula Drift made its yearly stop in Sonoma, California last weekend. I’ve been looking forward to this event, simply because I live less than an hour away and I had a guaranteed bed to sleep in. Upon my arrival, I found that I was not on the list for media, since KP Race and Victor Moore were unable to attend, my credentials were void. So I made the best of my bad luck and decided that if I couldn’t get the really close action shots, I would take a few steps back and shoot a different perspective. The next morning, I drove down to Borrowed Lenses in San Carlos and rented a tilt shift lens. Over the past few months, my interest in these lenses has grown quite a bit and when I saw Mister Geoff Pitts from Thunder Drift taking photos with one for FD Las Vegas, I knew I had to try it. Fate truly couldn’t have presented me with a finer opportunity. :: Joe Ayala

Building the Death Star II

January 19th, 2011 — 4:23am

Building the Death Star II The assembly took about 10 hours total over the course of 3 days. Video was captured directly via firewire from a Panasonic mini DV camcorder with a program called WinDV. The resulting video was further time compressed with Adobe Premiere Elements to get the duration of the video to match the duration of the soundtrack. Death Star II kit is available from Lego at shop.lego.com

Wishmaster – The Misheard Lyrics

January 18th, 2011 — 8:23am

NOTICE: Thanks to anyone who liked the video enough to request I put it up for download :D Unfortunately I’m not going to, because of copyright… blahblah. The song isn’t mine, you all know that, but putting up a song for download that isn’t mine (even if the video is) will get my arse SUED. As great fun the band are, their record company might see it differently. Sorry guys :( A video I made to celebrate Tarja’s epic voice. All photos were found using google, and images done in MS Paint. It was edited using Windows Movie Maker. Thanks EVERYONE for commenting and rating and making my week :D This video deffinately wasn’t intended as an insult to Nightwish or Tarja’s voice, as I love them both!

Dot matrix display on a building

January 17th, 2011 — 12:23pm

Great news to everyone: the display will go live yet again. If you don’t want to miss it, be there on 2010 October 8, at 21:00. This time in color! In October, 2005 students of the Schonherz Dormitory , Hungary turned them building into a big dot matrix display for the third time – now with music. I don’t think, that it is the largest, but quite huge enough. see: oriaskijelzo.hu (hungarian)

How to Muddle For a Cocktail

January 17th, 2011 — 2:24am

Once upon a time, all you needed for cocktail-making was liquor, ice, and a glass. Now, a cocktail isnt complete without freshly muddled fruit and herbs. Michael Cecconi, New York mixologist at Back Forty who also works at the Savoy and teaches at the Insititute for Culinary Education, has paid his muddling dues and wants to share his hard-earned knowledge. He does not think that drinks should have broken pieces of glass within them, for one. He recommends getting the right type of muddler and unbreakable glass, then using your arms weight to help your motion.
