He might be disturbed by something. Crate train him so he feels compfortable in “his home” and also take him out for lots of running and excercise before bed so he’ll be nice and tired at night.

Just like what human children do, he is seeking attention. Give him attention at “appropriate times” during the day so that he does not get starved for it at night.

he probably hears something and thinks its his duty to protect you at night. try takeing him on more walks or playing with him more to get rid of excess energy

If there is nothing he can be barking AT, then he is barking because he wants your attention. Crate training will help. I have a German Shepherd that liked to go bark at the horses while I was at work to the frustration of my neighbor. A citronella bark collar did the trick. Works well at night on my Irish Wolfhound that howls when she wants attention too.

I had the same problem with my German Shepherd…until I gave him a “night light”. I have a light up to illuminate the backyard. Now he can see what is going on…instead of giving warning barks to every noise he hears.
